Learning to drive can be a daunting
and scary experience, also some people may learn differently to others and
learn at a different pace. You may be quick and picking everything up and do in
just a couple of months or you may take a couple of years. Not to worry though
because we are here to support you through the whole experience.
Nothing says a great accomplishment
like learning to drive and how thrilling it will be to learn in the great city
of Manchester.
With home to Britain’s first
passenger train station, the oldest library in England and not to mention
Manchester United (for all those football fans out there).
With our help here at
drivinglesson.com you know you’re in safe hands to learn, here we will give you
all the information and practical training you will need to pass your Driving
test.
What’s the first step that I take?
The first step you’ll need to take
is to get your provisional licence, you can apply for this up to 2 months
before your 17th Birthday. You will not be able to drive in a
learner car without it, this you can purchase through your local post office or
online the government website.
The Theory Test
Depending on what is best for you,
you can either take your theory test before you start driving lessons or you
can do this alongside your lessons. You will need to have passed your theory test
before you take your practical test.
The theory and hazard perception
test, you will be studying road signs, the highway code and just learning all
the rules that are needed to know to have a safe understanding of the road.
Sometimes it is easier to do your
theory test alongside your practical lessons, if you find it easier to learn as
you do. Then it will help for you to learn the signs and rules along the way.
Here we can support you in the best way that we can for you.

It’s all as easy as it sounds and
the only thing you need to do after is show up to your lesson.
Practice, practice, practice
One of the keys of learning to drive
is PRACTICE! As the common saying goes “practice makes perfect,” this is a
saying that should be taken seriously. For those pupils who are more than eager
to get on the road then you can always practice with a family member or a
friend who is over the age of 21 and has had their licence for 3 years or more.
Our instructor will also try to fit you in for as many lessons per week as they
can.
The more you practice then the more
likely it is for you to pick up things with more ease and to show what you have
learnt, and it also helps you to build up your confidence when on the road.
What you will learn is to trust our
instructor’s guidance and advice, your instructor will know the best way to
help you and they will also know once you’re at test standard, so it is good to
keep their judgment in your mind. The instructor is here to help you get
through this nerve wreaking and exciting experience the best way they can.
Safety
Safety is ever so important, the
most important thing you will need to know when learning to drive.
Your life and other lives are in
your hands when you are on the road. This might sound daunting but all you need
to do is use basic common sense such as, not using your phone while driving.
Always watch what you’re doing and then the rest will just become natural to
you.
Our instructors are there to ensure
that your safety is at the correct standard for when you take your test.
So always make sure that when you
drive that you take breaks if you’re tired, never drink and drive and always
stay focused when on the road as it will keep you and people around you safe.
The Test
When it comes to the test date there
are a few things you’ll have to do on this test:
A sight test – this is to check that
you can read signs and number plates from a certain distance. If this is failed
then you will not be allowed on the road, please ensure that if you need
glasses or think you may need them. Please see an optician before starting
driving lessons.
The “Show me tell me” questions will
be taught by your instructor, these will be questions where the examiner will
want you to show you how to do something such as “show me how you would check
the power assisted steering wheel.” Or “Tell me how you would check that the
brakes are working before starting a journey.”
The Drive – This would be 40 minutes
of driving and you will be given various instructions which may include the
emergency stop, reversing around a corner.
Independent Drive – The independent
drive, this will be where you are given around 20 minutes of independent
driving where you can drive without instructions. 10 minutes could include
driving with a sat-nav.
At the end you will then be told if
you’ve passed or failed, but not to worry! If you failed, then you will get the
chance to do it again and practice on the parts that may have gone wrong the
first-time round. If you pass, then your journey will be completed, and you
will know you have done the best that you can, and you will now be able to have
the independence and safety knowledge to be on the road.
