How can we help you?

You'll need to be 17 or older. If you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you can begin driving lessons when you're 16. You need to have a valid provisional driving licence.

You can apply for a provisional licence as early as three months before you turn 16, but will need to wait until your 17th birthday before you can learn to drive.

Apply here for your provisional licence https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence opens new window

There’s no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practice driving. How many lessons you need will depend on how quickly you learn. The average is between 40 – 50 hours.

You can take your theory test when you have your provisional driving licence and when you are at least 17 years of age. You may have received your provisional driving licence at 16 years of age, but you are only permitted to book the theory test from your 17th birthday onward.

This is down to how quickly you would like to pass and the amount of money you have to spend per week. Continuity of driving lessons is very important and the more often you're behind the wheel the better. We can offer weekly lessons or a fast pass course. If you choose the weekly lessons then between 2 and 4 hours of private lessons per week is recommended. You're also likely to progress more quickly if you have two-hour lessons each time.

Once you feel comfortable behind the wheel and know the basics it’s a good idea to get some private practice in with friends or family. They must be over 21, be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, for example they must have a manual car licence if they’re supervising you in a manual car, have had their full driving licence for 3 years (from the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.

“It’s been a good experience practicing with Talib Hussain. I’ve passed my test today and I’m beyond excited. Have had 3 different instructors and honestly I wish I’ve had Talib all along I would have long passed my test. He’s a very good instructor. (Instructor Talib Hussain)”

“I passed first time with Asim Nadeem. Asim was my second instructor and I was so close to quitting when I began with him. He believed so much in me and always encouraged me, he corrects gently and genuinely wants to see his student do better. Also to add that I am heavily pregnant, Asim pushed me to improve on my driving skills so I could get my licence before the baby arrives. I really appreciate Asim for his sense of humor, compassion, communication and patience. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. I recommend him 100% for anyone looking for an instructor who is patient, kind and calm. (Instructor Asim Nadeem)”

“A big thank you to my instructor Asim Nadeem! He was absolutely amazing and made the entire learning process so positive. He was incredibly patient and never made me feel bad about repeating the same mistakes or not learning concepts fast enough; Instead, he was always gentle, supportive, and full of encouragement and positive reinforcement. He also brought a great sense of humor to our lessons, which made them enjoyable and took the stress out of learning. He was always on time, and was also flexible when it came to scheduling lessons, which made a big difference with my busy rota. On the day of my driving test, he was incredibly kind and supportive, even showing me breathing techniques to calm my nerves. Thanks to him, I passed on my first attempt with no prior driving experience! Overall, it was fantastic having Asim as a driving instructor and I really recommend him. (Instructor Asim Nadeem)”
