You'll need to be 17 or older. If you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you can begin driving lessons when you're 16. You need to have a valid provisional driving licence.
You can apply for a provisional licence as early as three months before you turn 16, but will need to wait until your 17th birthday before you can learn to drive.

There’s no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practice driving. How many lessons you need will depend on how quickly you learn. The average is between 40 – 50 hours.
You can take your theory test when you have your provisional driving licence and when you are at least 17 years of age. You may have received your provisional driving licence at 16 years of age, but you are only permitted to book the theory test from your 17th birthday onward.
This is down to how quickly you would like to pass and the amount of money you have to spend per week. Continuity of driving lessons is very important and the more often you're behind the wheel the better. We can offer weekly lessons or a fast pass course. If you choose the weekly lessons then between 2 and 4 hours of private lessons per week is recommended. You're also likely to progress more quickly if you have two-hour lessons each time.
Once you feel comfortable behind the wheel and know the basics it’s a good idea to get some private practice in with friends or family. They must be over 21, be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, for example they must have a manual car licence if they’re supervising you in a manual car, have had their full driving licence for 3 years (from the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.

“Nazia has been one of the most compassionate, supportive, kind instructors I have ever had. Her encouraging and friendly way has made learning to drive a positive experience, she is keen to get a safe driver and share all the tips and tricks with you, not only to pass your test but to be a skilled and safe driver generally. I am so grateful for everything she taught me and to help me pass from the first time despite how nervous I was. (Instructor Nazia Bibi)”
“Eugene is a great instructor, I’m quite a nervous driver and his calm demeanour and clear instruction helped me pass my test with only 2 minors! He went above and beyond to make sure he could fit me in for extra lessons before my test and really helped build my confidence! Thanks so much Eugene! (Instructor Eugene Ako)”
