You'll need to be 17 or older. If you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you can begin driving lessons when you're 16. You need to have a valid provisional driving licence.
You can apply for a provisional licence as early as three months before you turn 16, but will need to wait until your 17th birthday before you can learn to drive.

There’s no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practice driving. How many lessons you need will depend on how quickly you learn. The average is between 40 – 50 hours.
You can take your theory test when you have your provisional driving licence and when you are at least 17 years of age. You may have received your provisional driving licence at 16 years of age, but you are only permitted to book the theory test from your 17th birthday onward.
This is down to how quickly you would like to pass and the amount of money you have to spend per week. Continuity of driving lessons is very important and the more often you're behind the wheel the better. We can offer weekly lessons or a fast pass course. If you choose the weekly lessons then between 2 and 4 hours of private lessons per week is recommended. You're also likely to progress more quickly if you have two-hour lessons each time.
Once you feel comfortable behind the wheel and know the basics it’s a good idea to get some private practice in with friends or family. They must be over 21, be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, for example they must have a manual car licence if they’re supervising you in a manual car, have had their full driving licence for 3 years (from the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.

“Passed first time thanks to Asim Nadeem! I just want to say a big thank you to the whole team and especially to my amazing instructor, Asim Nadeem. Thanks to his professional, friendly, patient, and clear teaching style, I passed my driving test on the first try! I was nervous leading up to the test, but Asim brother gave me confidence and always believed in me. He even predicted I’d get around four minors and that’s exactly what happened! Asim is not just an instructor; he’s a mentor. He’s focused, honest, and truly cares about his students' success. He teaches safe driving habits, not just how to pass the test. Every lesson was well-organized and productive and I actually looked forward to them! If you’re looking for a top-quality driving school, I highly recommend this team and I especially recommend Asim Nadeem. He’s a fantastic instructor and a genuinely great person. Thank you again, Asim brother! You’re the best! (Instructor Asim Nadeem)”

I felt very comfortable with her throughout my lessons, as she gave clear instructions, stayed consistently supportive and energetic, and demonstrated excellent counselling skills that helped me overcome my nerves and anxiety. She is incredibly understanding and uses effective techniques to identify areas for improvement, always encouraging me to do better. I highly recommend her—she is truly exceptional. Thank you Nazia, and the entire drivinglesson.com team. (Instructor Nazia Bibi)”
